2 New State-of-the-Art Cardiac Cath Labs at Doylestown Hospital

Flat screen technology and digital imaging showcase new advanced equipment.

The best just got better. Doylestown Hospital’s cardiac catheterization program already ranks among the best in the nation for performing successful emergency angioplasties (opening of blocked coronary arteries during a heart attack). Now the hospital’s catheterization teams have enhanced capabilities thanks to a complete renovation of the unit and the addition of two new catheterization labs.

The facility now houses four catheterization labs, including a new dedicated electrophysiology lab where physicians can examine the electrical system of the heart.

The rooms are equipped with the most advanced technologies, including new digital imaging systems with flat screen technology that enable the medical team to see the workings of the heart and blood vessels with unprecedented clarity.

“Comparing the new imaging systems to previous ones is like comparing standard televisions to high definition TVs,” says Michele Clugston, Clinical Manager. “They also let our physicians magnify and examine the images from a variety of angles, enabling them to make better diagnoses and treatment decisions.”

What’s more, the newly expanded facility will enable the entire medical team, including 10 physicians and more than 20 nurses, to work in the same unit, fostering collaboration and communication.

Ms. Clugston says she realizes just how advanced Doylestown’s cardiac program is when she attends national medical meetings where top cardiac experts demonstrate the “latest and greatest” advances in cardiac care. “In many cases, I’ve seen it all before,” she says. “At Doylestown, we’re using all the newest devices, medications and surgical techniques that large, nationally-known hospitals are offering. Our patients get the best care, close to home.”
