Time is of the essence; Call 911 and get to the hospital fast!

The hospital Emergency Department staff may administer t-PA, a "clotbusting" medication, to treat acute ischemic stroke. (strokes caused by a blood clot) The medication can prevent disabilities, but it must be taken within three hours after a stroke begins.
