Debbie Wood, RN
Lead Research Coordinator
Q: What is the clinical trial?
Ms. Wood: We are seeking participants for a
clinical trial of a potential new medicine that
prevents blood clots from forming. Before any
new medication or medical device can be used
for the general population, it must undergo a
series of controlled tests to assess its safety and
tolerability. After animal and laboratory testing,
the medication or device is tested with humans.
Q: Is the atherosclerosis
trial for me?
Ms. Wood: If you are 18 or older and have
had a heart attack or stroke in the last year,
or if you have documented peripheral vascular disease, this clinical trial might be for you. You will
not be required to stop your standard of care
medications. It’s ideal for patients who have atherosclerosis
(hardening of the arteries), even though
they are taking aspirin and Plavix®.
Q: What does the trial involve?
Ms. Wood: This particular trial will last for three
years. Participants will be seen every four months for
the first year and every six months for the final two
years. During visits, they will have blood work and
a physical exam. They also will receive an EKG
annually. There is no cost to participants.
If you are interested in participating in this clinical trial, please call the Medical Research Department at Doylestown Hospital (215-345-2119) or visit the hospital’s website at www.dh.org and click on Other Medical Services, then scroll down to Medical Research. You will be able to complete and submit a Potential Subjects Questionnaire, which we will evaluate.
