All babies deserve special care, but some who are born prematurely or with special medical needs require additional support. When that happens, the babies are often transferred to a children’s specialty hospital, sometimes more than an hour away from Doylestown. Now, thanks to a newly created affiliation with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), that will happen less often.
Our Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU) now offers around-the-clock coverage from CHOP neonatalogists and neonatal nurse practitioners. This is an enhancement to Doylestown Hospital’s unit, which has been providing special care and TLC to hundreds of newborns since 1994.
“Our new affiliation brings nationally recognized CHOP expertise to a high-quality community hospital,” says Carrie Hufnal-Miller, MD, a long-time Bucks County resident who recently joined Doylestown Hospital as Director of Neonatology.
Dr. Hufnal-Miller, along with Gita Jani, MD, and other colleagues from her practice, will provide care for these babies who are born too early, too small or with medical problems that require constant monitoring.
“The new partnership will eventually make possible our care of infants born earlier than 30 weeks, or with more intensive medical issues,” Dr. Hufnal-Miller adds. “This means we will rarely have to separate mother and baby. “
