Good News For Larger-Breasted Women

When Doylestown Hospital began offering digital mammography in 2002, it was the perfect choice for pre-menopausal women under 50, and women with dense breasts. Studies had shown that, for women in these groups, digital mammography was more effective than traditional film mammography in detecting breast cancer.

Digital mammography captures the image of a breast electronically, resulting in faster results (no film to develop) and improved contrast between dense and nondense breast tissues. Digital mammograms are also easier to magnify, manipulate, store and retrieve than the older film versions.

There was, however, one drawback to the first- generation digital machines: Their image receptors were too small for women with large breasts (D cup or above). But, we have good news for women who are “amply endowed.” The FDA has approved a second generation of machines that can handle all breast types and sizes.

This latest digital technology is now available at the Women’s Diagnostic Center on Doylestown Hospital’s main campus.

To schedule your digital mammogram at the Women’s Diagnostic Center of Doylestown Hospital at either the Doylestown or Warrington location, please call 215-345-2274. Walk-in appointments are also available at the Health and Wellness Center, Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
