An exciting new chapter in the evolution of heart care has begun at Doylestown Hospital. First we introduced a new director of cardiothoracic surgery, Joseph Auteri, MD. Then we officially changed the name of the Heart Center to the “Heart Institute of Doylestown Hospital.” This name change reflects the quality and growth of all of our cardiac programs over the past seven years.
Dr. Auteri was selected as the new director after an exhaustive and thorough search for a highly skilled heart surgeon and outstanding medical leader. He brings terrific credentials in both areas, plus a vision that unites the latest advancements in cardiac care with Doylestown Hospital’s dedicated staff of top-quality cardiac physicians.
The Next Generation of Heart Care
Dr. Auteri sees his role at Doylestown Hospital as a
patient advocate. His goal is to help provide a patient
experience second to none. “Every hospital can have a
shiny new X-ray machine,” he maintains. “Not every
hospital has smiling patients in the Cardiac Unit.
There is far more to quality patient care than a low
mortality rate.
“Coronary bypass surgery has been studied more than any operation in history. We all know how to do it right. My challenge to our staff is: ‘Will you take care of this patient like she was your mother?’”
For Dr. Auteri, coming to Doylestown means coming home. Both he and his wife Maia grew up in this area and attended Central Bucks High School East.
A graduate of Harvard University and Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Auteri has previously served as the medical director of the Scottsdale Heart Center in Arizona and the medical director of the Bon Secours Heart Institute in Portsmouth, Va.
