Doylestown Hospital is pleased to announce the acquisition of seven acres of undeveloped land immediately adjacent to the hospital’s main driveway. The property is part of a larger parcel recently purchased by a Doylestown area businessman from long-time owner, Dr. John Gribb.

According to hospital CFO Jim Brownlow, the hospital has purchased six of eight available lots and is planning to build a parking garage on the site. “Anyone who visits Doylestown Hospital from Monday through Friday can attest to the fact that finding an open parking space close to the building is a challenge,” says Brownlow. “This makes it unnecessarily difficult for some people to access our services. And as our community continues to grow, our hospital will continue to expand. So it is imperative that we plan to deal with the increased cars and traffic on our campus.”
Development plans for the Gribb property approved in the late 1990s had divided the area into eight lots, one of which contains an existing medical office building. The private buyer will retain ownership of that property and one other fronting State Street.
According to Brownlow, the design process for a three-story, 400-space garage opposite the hospital’s North Lobby entrance has already begun, with groundbreaking expected in February 2008. If all goes as planned, the new garage will be complete by the following July.
“Everyone here is extremely excited about this project,” confirms Brownlow. “Lack of parking is one of the few issues consistently noted in our patient satisfaction surveys. We hope this will help ease the crunch and make a hospital visit less stressful for patients and visitors.”
