The Weight by Design program at the Health and Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital in Warrington can help. Here is some helpful information about this successful program from Stephanie Weisser, RN, who coordinates the program with Rosemary Goodwin, RN.
Q. Will I have to follow a strict diet?
Ms. Weisser: You will have to make some changes, but we will help you find the right eating plan for you. We consider your preferences along with your health and medical needs, lifestyle and good nutrition.
Q. How long will I need to stay on the diet?
Ms. Weisser: The idea of Weight by Design is not to think of it as ?going on a diet? but as making
permanent changes in your eating. A supermarket tour will help you learn to choose healthful foods; classes in portion size and the caloric value of different foods will teach you to plan your meals.
Q. Does fitness play a role?
Ms. Weisser: There is a meeting with a personal trainer to develop an exercise program ? at home or at the gym ? to keep fit.
Q. How long does the program last?
Ms. Weisser: Weight by Design groups meet for 16 weeks, enough time to create new habits for the long run. Meetings include private weigh-ins, classes and discussions to help each woman achieve her own goals.
Q. Does it work?
Ms. Weisser: Yes. The people who have completed the program lost an average of over 16 pounds, lowered their cholesterol levels and blood pressure and were extremely satisfied.
