Since Hunterdon Medical Center was founded in 1953, our volunteers have been the strong roots supporting our healthcare system. It began with a small group of women who started the Hunterdon Exchange to raise money to begin building the hospital. Since then we have grown to a volunteer force of more than 500 men, women and juniors who serve throughout the Hunterdon Healthcare System.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and bring a variety of skills, abilities and talents with them. With their special personal touch, our volunteers deliver quality care with compassion and help improve the lives of others.
Virtually every department at HMC can benefit from the use of volunteers. In addition, there are some special volunteer programs here at HMC in which you may have interest. Examples of these include:
Therapeutic Music Program
Lance Hemlow is one of our Therapeutic Music Program Volunteers. Here at HMC, we have volunteers who play soft music in the public corridors outside patient rooms to enhance the patient’s stay in our hospital setting.
Pet Therapy Program
Jane Doerr with Duke is one of our Pet Therapy Program Volunteers. At HMC, therapy dogs and volunteers visit our patients and staff daily. These visits provide a welcome opportunity for our patients at Hunterdon Medical Center and Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center to interact with animals while in the hospital or in for treatment.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age, and able to commit to a minimum of 8 hours of service a month for a term of at least 100 hours.
