The most important thing you can do about the stress in your life is to identify the sources and manage them as best you can. And use these stress-busting strategies:
1. Eat and drink sensibly. Overeating and drinking alcohol don’t help you deal with stress; they add to the problem.
2. Exercise regularly. Exercise produces different brain chemicals, which can leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out.
3. Get enough sleep. Adults typically need about 7-9 hours.
4. Keep perspective. Don’t fret needlessly over what you can’t control.
5. Get organized. You can minimize stress if you plan ahead and establish some routines.
6. Be prepared for situations that you know may be stressful, such as starting a new job.
7. Be kind to yourself. Ask for help.
8. Relax. Use whatever technique works for you. Deep breathing, muscle relaxation, visualization, meditation or listening to soothing music are methods you can try.
9. Work to resolve conflicts with others. Don’t let a small issue become a big deal.
10. Laugh. A lot. Do something every day that makes you smile.
