Kegels for Control

Dr. James Choi recommends daily Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles to better support the bladder.

For women who leak urine when they cough, sneeze or laugh, Dr Choi recommends daily Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles to better support the bladder.

The exercise involves isolating the pelvic floor muscles by pretending to stop urination in midstream. The muscles are pulled in and squeezed for about 10 seconds. Dr. Choi recommends his patients do three to four sets of “squeezes” several times a day. Patients can also use a weighted device in the vagina to assist in strengthening the pelvic muscle.
