Know the Facts About Mini-Strokes: It Could Save Your Life

Perhaps it's the word "mini" that diminishes the seriousness of the event or the quick duration in which one may pass. But a mini-stroke, also known as a transient ischemic attack (TIA), often precedes the real thing.

According to the National Stroke Association, more than a third of patients who have a TIA go on to have a stroke. Although a mini-stroke has the same symptoms as an actual stroke, they typically last less than 24 hours. Some people don't realize they have had a TIA because they were able to resume normal functioning fairly quickly.

It's important to know the symptoms of stroke and TIA and seek prompt medical evaluation and treatment.
