In October 2006, the U.S. FDA approved Tyzeka (telbivudine) as the sixth drug therapy for adults with chronic hepatitis B. Tyzeka, a nucleoside inhibitor, is a pill taken once a day with almost no reported side effects. Studies have shown that it rapidly and profoundly suppresses HBV levels.
