A Safe Alternative to Hysterectomy

Pottstown Memorial Medical Center now offers a safe and effective alternative to hysterectomy to women with uterine fibroids.

Pottstown Memorial Medical Center (PMMC) now offers a safe and effective alternative to hysterectomy to women with uterine fibroids. Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive technique that shrinks uterine fibroids with one tiny incision.

Robert L. Worthington-Kirsch, MD, FSIR, FCIRSE, a recent addition to the PMMC staff, has performed UAE since 1996 and has a vast amount of experience. He is a leader in research and teaching fibroid treatment nationally and internationally.

Fibroids...
  • effect 50-80 percent of women

  • are the most common reason for hysterectomy

  • are the reason for the most frequently performed major surgical procedure in the U.S.

  • “Uterine Artery Embolization is an effective treatment for fibroids that gives women relief from abnormal bleeding and pressure from fibroids and allows them to avoid a major surgery,” advises Dr. Worthington- Kirsch.

    What are Uterine Fibroids?
Fibroids are a benign tumor of the uterus. They are not a cancer. However, they do have a rich blood supply and cause bleeding and pain. They are an important health issue.
