Pottstown Memorial Medical Center (PMMC) now offers
image guided surgery, a major medical advancement that
involves fewer risks than traditional surgery, reduced
pain and a shorter recovery time.
Using a variety of imaging technologies, image guided surgery enables the surgeon to see inside the body in exact detail. Because of the precision that image guided surgery technology provides, the surgeon is able to form a specific, detailed surgical plan for the surgery: where the best spot is for the incision, the most advantageous path to the targeted area, and what critical structures to avoid.
Robert L. Worthington-Kirsch, MD, FSIR, FCIRSE, performs image guided surgery at PMMC to treat a wide variety of conditions, including uterine fibroids, varicose veins, pelvic congestion syndrome, and some vertebral fractures.
“Imaging guidance allows us to achieve objectives that recently required a trip to the OR, general anesthesia, and major surgeries with now brief procedures performed under local anesthesia – often on an outpatient basis,” says Dr. Worthington-Kirsch. “I practice at the cutting edge of medicine, but with minimal actual cutting.”
