Facial numbness or weakness – Ask person to smile

Arm weakness – Ask person to raise both arms

Speech disturbance – Ask person to speak a simple sentence

Time is of the essence; Call 911 and get to the hospital fast!

The hospital Emergency Department staff may administer tPA, a “clot-busting” medication, to treat acute ischemic stroke (strokes caused by a blood clot). The medication can prevent disabilities, but it must be taken within three hours after a stroke begins.
