New hand rehabilitation and foot drop systems help stroke patients and others with limited mobility to increase their independence.

St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center now offers two new treatments that may help some stroke patients as well as others with limited mobility to increase their independence. A new hand rehabilitation system and foot drop system have produced lifestyle enhancing results in certain patients.

Hand Rehabilitation

The NESS H200 system uses mild electrical stimulation to improve the way the arm works. It can:

  • facilitate muscle re-education
  • reduce spasticity
  • increase range of motion
  • help prevent atrophy
  • Foot Drop System

The NESS L300 is an advanced foot drop system that uses mild stimulation to lift the foot and assist walking. In some cases it can be used instead of an ankle brace. It is for people who have foot drop caused by these medical conditions:

  • stroke
  • traumatic brain injury
  • multiple sclerosis
  • cerebral palsy
  • incomplete spinal cord injury
