One of the most common reasons people give for not going green is the expense. While it’s true that certain eco-friendly products are more costly, some may actually save you money.

How Green Is Your Home and Garden

  • Insulate your doors, windows and hot water heater.
  • Buy a programmable thermostat.
  • Use energy-efficient lightbulbs.
  • Use refillable household cleaning products.
  • When the time comes to replace old appliances, choose energy-efficient models.
  • Use chlorine-free laundry products and baby wipes.
  • Look for products that are phosphate- free and biodegradable.
  • Switch to organic hair products that contain no toxic agents.
  • Avoid chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Mulch every year to cut down on water waste and weeds.
