6 Tips to write an eNewsletter
that people will read

Email marketing is an easy, economical way to send people to your website, your programs, your services and your physicians.

Medical email marketing is even more powerful when your subscribers can easily share or FORWARD your news with others – an activity referred to as viral marketing.

Here’s how to write an eNewsletter people OPEN, Read and Forward
  1. Give your email subscribers a recipe … an invitation … a useful tip in every issue  (See a sample)

Consider the needs and interests of your subscribers.  Your first priority is to incite subscribers to open your eNewsletters. And, they will open it when there is something in it for them. A recipe is consistently one of the top articles people read in eNewsletters.

  2. Keep articles short  (See a sample)

The most effective email newsletters are built around clear, strong content.  Internet users will quickly scan your email to see if it is worth reading. If they don’t “get it” fast, they’ll delete your message.  If they "get it", they’ll click to read more on your website. That’s your goal: Use your eNewsletter to send traffic to your website.

  3. The SUBJECT line is vital (See a sample)

Your subject line determines if a subscriber will open or delete your e mail. You have just four to eight words to win an email subscriber's attention. The best subject lines stress a benefit, pose a question, use a teaser or a deadline. Avoid the word FREE. It can get your e-mail deleted as SPAM.

  4. Deliver on your promise (See a sample)

If your subject line promises 5 tips, deliver one now. Email subscribers want information quickly, so make it easy for the reader to decide to continue reading.

  5. Send every click thru to the right place (See a sample)

Check to make sure every click thru links readers to the correct landing page on your website. It might not be your homepage.

  6. Target and boost open rates (See a sample)

Tailor your content so that it precisely addresses your subscriber’s interest. E mail newsletter marketing lets you target with precision. Take advantage of this as your email subscriber list grows. Create different versions of your email marketing message for subscribers interested in cardiac, diabetes or a women’s health newsletter.
